Vietnam will meet with new challenges and difficulties when it comes to the East Vietnam Sea situation, a military official said during the 12th National Party Congress on Friday.
Though peace, cooperation and development will be the primary goals in the upcoming years, complicated developments in international situations will occur, according to General Ngo Xuan Lich, chief of the General Political Department under the Vietnam People’s Army.
The Asia-Pacific region, including Southeast Asia, will continue to develop actively while continuing to be the area where big countries will compete with one another fiercely with their own strategies, General Lich said during his speech at the National Party Congress, scheduled for January 20-28.
Vietnam will face several challenges and difficulties as the situation in the East Vietnam Sea is expected to intensify, requiring much more efforts in building and defending the nation, he added.
The general asserted that the Vietnamese army will carry on with its effort in national defense in order to create a peaceful and stable environment for sustainable development.
The Southeast Asian country will also focus on building a national defense force with great potential and synergy that originate from national resources as well as the people and are purely defensive in nature, the military official said.
“Vietnam will strengthen the formation of an official, elite, and modern army with high synergies and combat readiness, which will be the pivotal force in national defense,” General Lich stated.

Sharing a similar point of view on domestic and international situations, General Tran Quang Dai, Minister of Public Security, affirmed that the People’s Public Security, under the leadership of the Vietnamese Party and government, has been improving itself and completing all given tasks in the protection of the state, Party, social order and public security, maintaining the country’s political stability and promptly dealing with any emerging problem.
Vietnamese police and security personnel have achieved many positive results in their fight against, and prevention of, crimes, especially in busting illegal rings and combating high-tech criminals, according to General Quang.
The People’s Public Security has established five main lessons, including setting new objectives and requirements based on the reality; associating reform efforts with creativity and Party building with national defense; magnifying the power of the political system; improving the professional skills of police officers; and enhancing external relationships in fighting and preventing crimes, he elaborated.
