Before and after: Several branches of cotton trees in full bloom were cut down.

The incident took place in Tien Noi Ward, Duy Tien Town, where a row of cotton trees had become a popular photography spot during their annual bloom in March and April.

According to local officials, the person responsible for cutting the trees was identified as B.V.D..

D. admitted to removing several branches after authorities intervened to stop his family from collecting photo fees from visitors.

Vu Tan Dau, chairman of the Tien Noi Ward People’s Committee, said police had documented the incident, counted the damaged branches, and were preparing disciplinary measures.

“We’ve completed our report and will handle the case in accordance with regulations,” he told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Saturday.

Several branches of cotton trees in full bloom were cut down.

Earlier this month, local authorities ordered D.’s family to stop charging tourists for photos with the cotton trees, according to VnExpress.

Following the authorities’ intervention, the family removed a makeshift tent and footbridge they had installed and issued a public apology, pledging to stop charging visitors.

A government representative said that while some smaller trees had been planted and maintained by the family for the past five years, the cotton tree-lined path along the local canal had existed for years and is considered public land.

Previously, visitors voluntarily gave small donations to D.’s family in appreciation of their efforts to plant and care for the additional trees.

A tent set up by D.'s family to collect photo fees was ordered to be dismantled by local authorities.

The family later added photo props such as a wooden bridge and a tent for visitors to change clothes.

However, officials said the family had no legal right to collect fees, as the area was not under their management.

“The cotton tree road is located on the local canal bank and remains public property,” one official said.

“Any collection of fees there violates regulations.”
