Vietnamese State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation left Hanoi on Wednesday morning for his official visit to Thailand and attendance at the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
The trip is made at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.
Prominent among the Vietnamese delegation are Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long.
Running from Wednesday to Saturday, the trip is an occasion for Vietnam to further strengthen and develop its strategic partnership with Thailand, as well as affirm its efforts to contribute to the important agenda of APEC and the international community.
The Vietnam-Thailand relationship has continued to develop positively despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two countries celebrated their 45 years of diplomatic relations in 2021 with many meaningful activities in the fields of politics, economy, and culture.
Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Trade between the two countries reached US$18.8 billion in 2021, the highest ever, and increased by 18 percent over the same period in 2020.
