Vietnam logged on Wednesday morning three imported COVID-19 cases that were quarantined upon arrival, the Ministry of Health said.
The Vietnamese patients, aged 33 to 36, arrived in Vietnam from Japan on flight VN331 operated by national carrier Vietnam Airlines on Monday.
They were immediately quarantined in the northern city of Hai Phong after landing at Van Don International Airport in neighboring Quang Ninh Province.
They were sampled by the Preventive Medicine Center of Hai Phong, with results coming back positive for the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.
The three patients, a woman and two men, are being treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.
Vietnam’s COVID-19 tally stood at 866, including 321 imported cases, as of Wednesday morning.
There have been 405 local infections documented in Vietnam since July 25, when the country reported its first community-based case after 99 days.
Seventeen COVID-19 patients have died in Vietnam so far, most with severe concomitant conditions.
