This marks the first time Vietnam will chair a high-level conference focused on green growth and sustainable development, said Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu.
This year's P4G Summit will take place at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi with the participation of around 600 delegates, including those from many Vietnamese and international businesses, who have registered to attend either in person or online.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Deputy Minister Vu stated that the summit's theme emphasizes raising human awareness of shaping a sustainable and people-centered green transition.
He noted that Vietnam is among the countries most affected by climate change and rising sea levels.
The summit will feature ministerial-level discussions on various fields, including finance, technology, and innovation aimed at promoting green growth.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to deliver the opening speech and chair the high-level discussion session titled ‘Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition.’
Vietnam's green vision
Deputy Minister Vu noted Vietnam's strong commitments at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and reducing methane emissions by 30 percent by 2030.
He emphasized that Vietnam will not sacrifice social progress, justice, or the environment for economic growth.
Vu stated that Vietnam proactively proposed hosting the fourth P4G Summit, reflecting its commitment to collaborating with the international community and P4G members to achieve the United Nations' sustainable development goals and promote green growth at national, regional, and global levels.
The P4G Summit serves as a platform to raise awareness, share experience, and mobilize resources through public-private partnerships, fostering extensive international cooperation. It also provides an opportunity to showcase Vietnam's cultural richness and its determination to transition to a sustainable growth model, highlighting the country's socio-economic development achievements.
The P4G Summit is expected to adopt key outcome documents, including the Hanoi Declaration on Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition, and the P4G Statement on enhancing cooperation with multilateral organizations and mechanisms to promote green transition and sustainable development.
P4G currently has nine member countries: Denmark, Vietnam, South Korea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and South Africa, along with five partner organizations.
One of the prominent activities of P4G is to provide financial and technical support to small and micro enterprises in combating climate change.
Vietnam joined P4G on July 7, 2017 as one of the seven founding member countries.
Since its inception, P4G has convened three summits hosted by Denmark in 2018, South Korea in 2021, and Colombia in 2023.
