The match, part of the Maybank Challenge Cup, will take place on May 28 at Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
It marks Manchester United’s first return to Malaysia in 16 years.
Coach Kim, who guided Vietnam to an undefeated championship campaign at the 2024 ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup, was chosen to lead a squad composed of top players from all 12 AFF member nations.
“It’s an honor to lead the best players from across ASEAN in a match of this magnitude,” Kim said in a statement.
“We are not just representing our nations—we are showing the world the pride, spirit, and strength of our region.”
AFF President Major General Khiev Sameth said Kim’s appointment reflects the region’s footballing progress.
“His leadership will inspire not just our players, but an entire generation of footballers and fans,” he said.
The match is being organized with support from the Football Association of Malaysia, event partner ProEvents, and title sponsor Maybank.
The AFF said the game aims to highlight ASEAN football’s growing profile and promote regional unity through sport.
