-- Vietnam’s Acting State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on Tuesday conveyed her condolences to the King of Cambodia following news of a deadly ammunition depot explosion on April 27.

-- Throngs of people flocked to the downtown area in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday evening to watch a high-altitude fireworks display over the Saigon River Tunnel, celebrating Vietnam’s Reunification Day (April 30).

-- Large numbers of travelers heading to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City resulted in significant traffic congestion at key gateways on Tuesday, one day before the conclusion of the five-day holiday commemorating Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).

-- Prolonged congestion on the Phan Thiet-Dau Giay Expressway from Binh Thuan Province to Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday afternoon prompted traffic police forces to close the freeway at several entrances, rerouting vehicles to National Highway 1.

-- Police in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong summoned the owner of a Facebook account spreading fake news about the arrest of individuals carrying firearms at the Go! Supermarket in Da Lat City on Tuesday.

-- A delegation of 70 overseas Vietnamese from 22 countries around the world visited citizens and soldiers based in Truong Sa Island District off Khanh Hoa Province, south-central Vietnam, as well as the DK1 platform last month.

-- Nha Trang City has urged Khanh Hoa Province to devise a strategy to mitigate saltwater intrusion in the Cai and Quan Truong Rivers and oversee upstream waste sources to prevent pollution of the Cai River.

-- The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), overseeing 22 airports across the country and investing in phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project, reported a Q1 net revenue of VND5.64 trillion (US$222.53 million), marking a 19-percent increase from the same period last year. Profit after tax surged by 79 percent year on year to VND2,92 trillion ($115.21 million).

-- Vietnamese badminton player Le Duc Phat secured his spot to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer, landing 37th in the latest Badminton World Federation rankings with 23,630 points, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism’s Department of Sports and Physical Training reported on Tuesday.

-- Russian cyclist Petr Rikunov successfully defended his title while Estonian Martin Laas wins the last stage of the Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) Cycling Tournament 2024, the largest of its kind in Vietnam, on Tuesday.
