Police in southern Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City have uncovered a prostitution brokerage racket involving some former beauty queens, one of which sold sex for over US$8,200 per session.

The municipal police said on Friday that they had arrested Ha Thuy Van Anh, 23, a local woman, and 34-year-old Nguyen Thanh Liem, hailing from southern Ca Mau Province, for investigation on charges of prostitution brokerage.

The arrests were made while the police have been expanding their investigation into the prostitution ring led by 26-year-old Vo Thi My Hanh, a former flight attendant who was allegedly brokering sex services for her colleagues, who charged clients US$1,000-3,000.

From the testimonies of Liem and Anh, local police made two raids at Oakwood Residence Saigon Building in District 7 and La Galerie Hotel in Binh Chanh District, catching four couples having sex through the brokerage by the two brokers.

Among the four sex workers caught in red-hand, T.T.H., 36 years old, a former Miss Vietnam World, sold sex for VND200 million ($8,240) and N.N.T.T., 27, a former Miss Tourism Vietnam, prostituted herself for VND45 million ($1,850). 

The two others served their guests at a price of VND5 million ($206) each.

Liem and Anh confessed that they had contacted many prostitutes, including models and winners of beauty pageant contests in Vietnam and provided information and images of these sex workers to potential sex buyers for selection.

Many hot girls, beauty queens and runner-ups, TikTokers and models could sell sex at prices ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 per session.

The brokers said they directly charged whoremongers for $1,000-$2,000 per successful sex procurement.

In addition to Liem and Anh, the city’s police have coordinated with their colleagues in Hanoi and Hung Yen Province to detain Do Tien Hai and Bui Minh Tuan, respectively, who also worked as sex brokers related to the high-end prostitution led by Hanh.

The municipal police are continuing to expand their investigation and call on those who are accomplices with the above arrested to give themselves up to police office at 459 Tran Hung Dao, Cau Kho Ward, District 1, to receive leniency.
