A staff member of Hanh Luyen, a long-haul bus company based in Vietnam’s Quang Binh Province, has been suspended following an altercation with a foreign passenger over a restroom stop, a bus company representative confirmed on Saturday.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, central Vietnam, was captured in a viral video.
The video shows the male employee and the passenger engaged in a physical confrontation on the sidewalk of National Highway No. 1 in Dong Ha, before another foreign man and other passengers on the bus step in to de-escalate the scuffle.
The altercation was reportedly triggered when the foreign passenger requested a restroom stop while the bus was making a brief 1-2 minute stop in Dong Ha to unload goods.
The driver suggested the passenger wait until the next designated rest stop, but the passenger refused to reboard, leading to the physical altercation.
The bus company representative said that after the scuffle, both parties resolved the issue privately, and the passenger continued their journey to Da Nang City.
However, the employee involved has been suspended pending further disciplinary action.
Following the incident, the Quang Binh Bus Station management authority met with Hanh Luyen to reinforce professional conduct standards for bus staff, particularly when dealing with foreign tourists.
Nguyen Truong Sinh, an official from the bus station management authority, emphasized the importance of proper conduct toward all passengers so as to protect bus service companies’ reputation and maintain a positive tourism image of Quang Binh.
