The management of Hanh Luyen, a long-haul bus company in Vietnam, is investigating an altercation between one of its employees and a foreign passenger after the latter was denied a restroom stop in north-central Quang Tri Province on Thursday.

A video of the scuffle quickly went viral on social media, showing a male employee in a Hanh Luyen uniform and a foreign man grappling on the sidewalk of National Highway No. 1 in the province’s Dong Ha City.

Footage filmed by another passenger captures the two wrestling on the ground before a second foreign passenger intervenes to break up the fight. Several other passengers also step in to de-escalate the confrontation.

The video sparked widespread criticism online, with many condemning the employee’s actions.

Commenters argued that regardless of the circumstances, physical altercations between bus staff and passengers – especially foreign visitors – should never occur.

Some pointed out that bus employees should handle such situations more professionally to protect the company’s image and reputation.

A representative of Hanh Luyen said the company was awaiting the bus’ return to its headquarters to review onboard camera footage and determine the full details of the incident.

According to the representative, the bus driver initially reported that the foreign passenger requested a restroom stop just as the vehicle briefly paused in Dong Ha to deliver a package.

When the bus stopped, the passenger exited. However, the driver informed him that the stop would last only one to two minutes and urged him to reboard and wait for the designated rest stop.

The passenger refused to comply, leading to an argument with a bus staff member that ultimately escalated into physical violence.

Hanh Luyen’s management acknowledged that the video captured only part of the altercation and did not provide the full context of the verbal exchange.

However, the company admitted that the employee’s aggressive behavior had damaged its reputation and pledged to take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The identity and nationality of the foreign passenger remain unknown.

Hanh Luyen, headquartered in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, operates long-haul routes between Quang Binh and central Da Nang City.
