Residents in the area surrounding Hy Vong Canal in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City have reported that trash has once again accumulated, emitting a foul odor, just 19 days after a major cleanup.
The canal was filled with waste, including plastic bags and styrofoam boxes, on Thursday.

A local residing near Hy Vong Canal said that a group of volunteers from Sai Gon Xanh (Green Saigon) and youth union members collected over 10 metric tons of garbage from the canal in about three hours on March 1.
After the cleanup, the water flow was restored, and the unpleasant smell faded, said the local.
However, in the days that followed, more waste began to pile up again at the same spot, and the foul odor returned.
“It's frustrating to see that though so many people worked hard to remove the trash, the canal is quickly overwhelmed with garbage,” said another resident.
“I hope the authorities will impose strict fines on those who continue to dump trash in the canal,” the local added.
