Wednesday, April 08, 2015, 11:41 GMT+7

A cold front has entered several northern and north-central Vietnamese provinces, bringing rain and temperatures likely to drop under 15 degrees Celsius, the national weather forecast agency said Wednesday.

The Vietnam News Agency cited the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Center as saying that the cold snap has covered several northeastern provinces and some localities in northwestern and north-central areas since last night.

Strong gusts and rough seas have been recorded in the Gulf of Tonkin.

The cold snap is forecast to strike more northwestern provinces and some localities in the north-central and mid-central regions by Wednesday.

The snap will bring showers to several northern and north-central provinces, and cause the weather to turn cold in several northern provinces and bitterly cold in northern mountainous areas.

The temperature for today and tonight in the northwestern region is forecast to drop to 17 and 20 degrees Celsius and under 16 degrees in some places.

Meanwhile, the northeastern region will see showers in some places, with temperatures fluctuating between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius, and even plummeting to below 15 degrees in some mountainous areas.

Hanoi is expected to have rain in some spots and experience bitterly cold weather, with temperatures oscillating between 16 and 23 degrees Celsius.

The central province of Thua Thien-Hue and the north-central province of Thanh Hoa will also have showers in some places, with temperatures as low as 19 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the areas spanning from the central city of Da Nang to the south-central province of Binh Thuan are expecting showers and thunderstorms in a few areas.

Temperatures there are forecast to vary from 22 to 32 degrees.

The southern region will continue to go through hot, sunny weather and have showers and thunderstorms in some localities in the evening and at night.
