Siemens to scrap 1,000 energy jobs: report

Tuesday, June 11, 2013, 14:50 GMT+7

FRANKFURT – German engineering giant Siemens plans to cut 1,000 more domestic jobs at its energy division over the next few years, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported in its Tuesday edition.

The company plans to initially cut 340 jobs in its energy-solutions unit in Erlangen and Offenbach, the daily newspaper said.

"Siemens is thus reacting to the decline in orders in Europe," the paper said.

Siemens then plans to scrap another 650 jobs at those sites while it creates new ones in South Korea, strengthening its position in Asia.

The Munich-based company was not immediately available to comment.

The conglomerate had already announced in December that it intended to slash 1,100 jobs in its energy division in Germany.

Siemens has said its target was to cut six billion euros in costs by 2014.
