Vietnam Airlines will begin its first round of ticket sales for travel during the Tet, or Vietnamese New Year, on October 1, the flag carrier announced Thursday.

Tickets are available for all of Vietnam Airlines’ domestic services, nearly five months ahead of the country’s traditional holidays, which fall on February 19, 2015.

Vietnam Airlines said the early ticket sale is intended to create convenience for passengers during the busy travel season.

Tickets can be booked via the airline’s websites or its ticket agents countrywide.

Passengers are encouraged to book early as ticket scarcity traditionally grows when Tet nears.

It is traditional for Vietnamese airlines to begin ticket sales for Tet travel months in advance, as millions of local people will return to their hometowns from big cities, where they work or pursue higher education, on the national holidays.

Ticket shortages are not uncommon, and airfares are usually increased to exorbitant rates due to high demand.

On September 12, no-frills carrier VietJet Air also began selling 360,000 tickets for flights during Tet to serve passengers who worry about being unable to buy tickets when the holidays are too close.

Budget carrier Jetstar Pacific was the first domestic airline to sell tickets for Vietnamese New Year travel, with its tickets being available since July.
