Finland University Inc. – a company co-owned by three major universities in Finland – signed an agreement with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science over full cooperation in training, research, and student exchange in graduate courses last week.

The University of Turku, one of the three owners, will accordingly cooperate with the Vietnamese university to offer master’s degree courses in global technology management and information security and cryptography on the latter’s campus in District 5.

Ilkka-Pekka Similä, Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam, said Finland with its strength in information technology has been providing support for Vietnam to train students in these fields of study.

In an interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on January 26, when the deal was inked, Similä said over 500 students from Vietnam are currently studying in Finland, mostly enrolling in information technology and business management.

Vietnam has the third most students studying in Finland, the ambassador added.

The diplomat said international students in Finland are exempt from tuition and granted scholarships.

Recently, the government of Finland has rebuilt initiatives related to tuition fees and scholarships for those who want to choose the country for their study, leading to students possibly paying certain fees, said Pasi Kaskinen, chief executive officer of Finland University Inc.

But those who have outstanding academic performance will be supported with full scholarships, he added.
