-- Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a field visit on May 13 to the crew members of the Kilo-class submarine Hanoi during his official visit to Russia. The submarine is under final technical checking before transferring to Vietnam Navy.

-- Vietnam Marine Police in coordination with the US Department of State held yesterday a multilateral training course on law enforcements at sea in the northern city of Hai Phong. It was attended by officials from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia and the US.

-- Around 26 million ideas rewe submitted to central agencies for the modification of the 1992 Constitution.

Society:

-- The twelfth grader student Nguyen Van Nam of the Do Luong 1 high school in the central province of Nghe An, who died of drowning for saving five other pupils on April 30, was yesterday awarded the Medal of Courage ratify by the State President Truong Tan Sang.

-- Customs Department of the International Airport Da Nang said it has seized 98 travel guide books for misprinting the sovereignty of Vietnam on two archipelagos of Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly).

-- Vietnam successfully stamped out the H5N1 flu epidemic on swallows in the central province of Ninh Thuan, said Mai Van Hiep – deputy head of the department of veterinary medicine.

-- The remains of 31 bodies were found yesterday under the foundation of a house in the Cam Son Ward, Cam Pha Town in the northern province of Quang Ninh. The house owner Nguyen Thi Duoc said she was digging up the house foundation and made the discovery.

-- The construction of the bauxite project Nhan Co in the Central Highland province of Dak Nong is expected to start working in June next year – 18 months later than the planned schedule.

-- After the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has recently announced in May that it is the first agency in Vietnam successfully manufacturing UAVs, Colonel Vu Hong Quang – head of the Air Defense and Technology Institute under the Vietnam Air Force – confirmed his unit successfully did it nine years ago. In 2004, his agency flew an UAV named M-100CT at a speed of 150kph.

-- The Government Inspectorate announced yesterday it is to make a 10-day inspection of business operations at the Vietnam Airlines Corporation.

Business:

-- The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has proposed the Ministry of Transport to modify the management of ports and airports so that foreign investors are allowed to join management and operation of airports.

-- Consumers in Vietnam bear a total tax and fees of VND8,400 per liter of petrol, according to the Vietnam Petroleum Association.

-- The first business support center, or Empretec in Asia, will be located in Vietnam following a memorandum of understanding recently signed between the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (Vietrade).

-- Many commercial share holding banks in Vietnam yesterday announced to lower the interest rate to 6.85 percent a year for one month term and 7.05 percent for six month term.

Sports:

-- SHB Da Nang FC of Vietnam will play a match today with the host Semen Padang of Indonesia in the 1/16 qualification round to fight for a ticket to the quarterfinals of the AFC Cup 2013.
