The market management force in Hanoi, with the aid of local economic police, has found and seized a large number of harmful plant growth stimulants of Chinese origin kept without documents in a warehouse on Tuesday.

>> Chinese-labeled bags with strange matter found on Vietnam's central coast The seizure of the chemical was made after the joint force suddenly inspected a farm produce warehouse in Hoai Duc District on May 6. The force found a total of 230,000 tubes of plant growth stimulants packed in plastic bags, each of which contained 20 tubes. These bags was packed in sacks that were placed in the area for storage of mung bean and soybean. The chemical, which is used in boosting the growth of vegetables and fruits, originates from China and is banned from use in food, market controllers said. The storage unit’s owner, Nguyen Anh Tuyet, failed to show the inspectors any documents about the legality of the goods.            Tuyet said these sacks of chemicals had been delivered to the warehouse by a truck driver during a time when she was absent there. A relative of Tuyet’s family manages this warehouse, she told the inspectors. Besides the chemical, inspectors also seized hundreds of unlabelled bottles containing an unidentified solution, packed in sacks, and 20 cardboard boxes of anti-termite chemicals. Again, Tuyet had no documents to prove the origin of these goods. Inspectors sealed up all the questionable goods pending procedures for destroying them in accordance with applicable regulations.
