In a strange story, the headmaster of a preschool in the north-central Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh has been disciplined for using the high school diploma of a deceased person as her own.

>> Bogus dentist diplomas sold for up to $2,850 each in Vietnam The Nghi Xuan District Party Committee’s Commission for Inspection and the district People’s Committee have separately taken disciplinary actions against Dinh Thi Hong Van, the principal of the Xuan Linh Commune Preschool. The punishment was given after the chief inspector of the provincial Department of Education and Training confirmed that Van had used a bogus diploma and recommended that Van be strictly punished for her fraud. The chief inspector also requested that the fake diploma be revoked from Van. In September this year, Van was accused of using a high school diploma even though she had yet to complete secondary education. After receiving the claim, the Inspectorate launched an investigation into the issue. On September 17, the chief inspector issued a document confirming that Van had used the diploma of a person with the same name. The actual holder of the diploma died after she graduated from Tran Phu High School in the province in 1982.  The investigation showed that Van had borrowed the diploma and then replaced the birth date and other details on it with her own. She later used the fraudulent diploma to take a correspondence course on preschool education at the Hanoi Teacher’s Training University 1. After graduating from the university, she was admitted to the Xuan Linh Commune Preschool and was later appointed head master.

In April 2013, 28 preschool teachers in Bo Trach District in the central province of Quang Binh Province were fired after they were discovered using fake degrees.
