Ho Chi Minh police are hunting for the driver in a hit-and-run which was responsible for the death of a Dane on Saturday.

At around 1:30 am, the suspect’s car with an unidentified license plate was running on Mai Chi Tho Boulevard after exiting the Thu Thiem Tunnel in District 2 when it hit a motorbike ridden by Walther Bilde, a 51-year-old Dane, at a crossroads, according to the road and railway traffic police division under the Ho Chi Minh Department of Police.

Traffic camera footage showed that the suspect’s vehicle, a red sedan, kept on running after the collision.

People living around found wounded Bilde and immediately took him to the emergency room of Gia Dinh People’s Hospital, situated in the nearby district of Binh Thanh, officers said.

However, the Danish victim passed away notwithstanding all efforts due to serious head injuries.

Police arrived at the scene after being notified of the collision to make a report of the case as well as carry out their investigation.

Officials have gathered the witnesses’ statements and retrieved the video footage from the traffic camera, installed at the entrance to the Thu Thiem Tunnel, to identify the vehicle responsible for the crash.
