A US citizen who was an English teacher in Ho Chi Minh City was hit by a truck and died this morning.

Witnesses said at 9:40am today, a truck driven by Vo Thanh Tam, 23, was heading on Huynh Tan Phat Street towards Ben Nghe port. As the truck reached the crossroads of Huynh Tan Phat and Luu Trong Lu streets in district 7’s Tan Thuan Dong ward, the driver swerved towards the right side into Luu Trong Lu when the truck hit US citizen Wayne Madison.

The collision threw Mr. Madison, born in 1958 who was driving a bicycle at the time, down onto the street.

Madison, an English teacher in district 7, was crushed under the passing truck and died on the spot.

The driver immediately went to the local police station for a report. Witnesses said they did not know which direction Mr. Madison was heading. They only heard a loud noise and then saw him lying under the truck’s wheel.

At the scene, a Vietnamese woman cried a lot. It is suspected she was Madison’s wife.
