VN, Timor Leste vow to enhance all-round ties

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Timor Leste counterpart Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão have agreed to boost the two countries’ comprehensive cooperation in such fields as politics, economics, trade, investment, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, energy, information and communications, education and training. The agreement was reached at their talks in Hanoi on September 4, during which the two PMs agreed that the two nations will actively implement the Vietnam-Timor Leste Framework Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation signed in April 2010.

To this end, the leaders agreed that relevant ministries and departments will work together to promptly sign an agreement on investment encouragement and protection, ensure food security and promote links in oil and gas, tourism and people-to-people exchange, the two PMs said. 

The leaders applauded the signing of the trade agreement between the two Governments during the visit, saying that it will lay an important legal foundation for bilateral economic and trade links.

The two PMs also discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern and pledged to continue support to each other at multilateral forums and organizations.

PM Dung told his guest that Vietnam will actively work with ASEAN member countries to back Timor Leste’s bid to join the bloc.

Regarding the East Sea issue, PM Gusmão expressed his support to ASEAN’s stance which is made clear in its Six-Point Principles on the East Sea. The two PMs agreed on the need to ensure maritime security and safety, and peace and stability in the region as well.

Following the talks, both host and guest witnessed the signing of a trade agreement between the two Governments.
