Organizing parties with processions of ‘super cars’ and sexy music shows by long-legged girls has become ‘a-la-mode’ to the nouveau riche in Vietnam.

The most recent story came from the owner of a chain of hotels in district 1 and 5 in Ho Chi Minh City. She spent VND730 million or US$35,000 on flower decorations, sexy dancers and a team of expensive cars including Hummer, Audi, Maybach, Rolls-Royce, Lexus and BMW for the bridal procession on her daughter’s wedding day.

The young female dancers must perform in clothes that expose enough flesh to satisfy visitors attending the expensive entertainment show, as the dancers will be given tens of millions of dong in return for their performance.

Ngo Thi Phuong Thao, director of the Chau Au travel company in Binh Thanh District, specializes in renting out ‘super cars’ for processions and road shows. She, said, “All of my clients are very rich people, who only accept state-of-the-art cars, at least manufactured in 2011.”

“Some rich men from Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Can Tho came to me to hire luxury cars just to go to restaurants and coffee shops with their girlfriends.

“Some even hire such cars to go around the city with girlfriends. Three months ago a man from Long An spent 70 million dong to hire a BMW X6. On returning the car, he gave my staff a two million dong tip,” Thao added.

Thao said she had invested $20 million to buy luxury cars as Lamborghini, Maybach, Rolls-Royce, Audi and Ferrari to meet her rich clients’ increasing demands. An Audi, Lamborghini, Lexus or a BMW is priced at VND22 million (over $1,000) for each hour rented, while a Mercedes or Camry is cheaper, around VND15 million, she revealed.

Long, a representative of Saigon Limo company, which also specializes in renting out ‘super cars’, said the rental prices of his Cadillac CTS, Limousine, or Hummer range from VND50 – 100 million a day excluding tax.

“Besides hiring luxury cars, rich people spend big sums of money on flower decorations on the vehicles. A man from Dong Nai asked me to attach gold plates on the bundles of flowers to make his cars more glittering. It was so sophisticated that it took my staff two days to prepare a bundle of flowers,” Thao said.

Famous singers and sexy dancers included

Famous singers and sexy dancing shows are never absent from such kind of parties.

Duy, an owner of the media and advertisement company Dai Duong in District 3, confirmed that he has many sexy dancers available for hired performances at parties, with prices depending on their bodies and uniform.

He then took out a tablet to introduce images of his dancers in bikinis and said, “It’s more expensive with fewer clothes on.

“50 percent nudity means dancers wear thin clothes that viewers can see clearly with the lights from stages. It costs six million dong a show. It is eight million dong for a show with 60 – 80 percent nudity with short pants decorated with lace, and 11 million dong for a show with bikini only,” he said.

He added that an entire show, with sexy performances by dancers all at least 1.7m tall, costs VND261 million or $12,500.

A real estate tycoon in district 1 and regular client of Thao admitted that, “I don’t think that is to show off. I just do what I have and spend what I make. It’s my personal hobby provided that my friends and my family enjoy it.”

Similarly, the owner of a chain of hotels in HCMC said proudly, “It’s a unique chance in the life of my daughter, so the party must be unique and at my ranking level.

“It helps my daughter have pride and satisfy my parents. I don’t care what others think about it,” she confirmed.

Owner of such parties also order specialty food including meat of endangered animals as anteater, deer, muntjac, bear, and snakes.

Nguyen Ngoc Tho, vice chief of the culturology department of the HCMC University of Social Sciences and Humanity, remarked that owners of the kind of luxury parties have no other target than showing off their names.

“The phenomenon is not new now. It can bring negative consequences to society. They want to show off their property to be judged superior than others. Others want to polish their names to have fame,” Tho concluded.
