-- Vietnamese State President Tran Dai Quang joined talks with his Laotian counterpart Bounnhang Vorachith in Vientiane on Sunday morning, as part of his official visit to Laos. The two head of states discussed the Laos-Vietnam relationship and cooperation in various fields.

-- The Standing Committee of the lawmaking National Assembly is scheduled to convene a regular meeting on Monday to carry out preparations for the parliament’s first plenum on July 20.

-- A ship of fishermen from the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau was rammed and sunk by an unidentified iron-hull vessel on Saturday night, resulting in one fisher going missing, according to the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center.

-- Police in Kien Thuy District in the northern city of Hai Phong affirmed on Sunday that they were investigating a case in which a group of thugs attacked the owner of a local karaoke parlor and destroyed its property. The owner had complained that they were making a noise.

-- An increasing number of street vendors and medical shops in Ho Chi Minh City have been publicly selling tools for smoking crystal meth.

-- Police in the southern province of Dong Nai on Sunday discovered 180 boxes of smuggled firecrackers made in China, which were hidden in several train cargoes at Ho Nai station.

-- Vietnam has been named the top steel importer in Southeast Asia in 2015 after buying a total of 11.3 metric tons of the metal last year, according to the World Steel Association.

-- The People’s Committee in the central city of Da Nang has approved a proposal to establish three industrial parks whose area totals 1,300 hectares in Hoa Vang District in order to attract more investors from the United States, Japan, and other countries.

-- Hundreds of local citizens in the north-central province of Ha Tinh attended the Dong Hoa fishing festival on Sunday. The event is organized annually after local farmers have finished harvesting.
