Bodies of Vietnamese mother, daughter in MH17 tragedy identified

The bodies of a Vietnamese woman and her daughter who died when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down in July have been identified in the Netherlands, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.>> 3 Vietnamese among dead on Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 The ministry’s spokesman, Le Hai Binh, released the information at a press conference in Hanoi on Thursday, adding that the woman’s son was also on board the flight, but he has yet to be identified. The woman, 31-year-old Nguyen Ngoc Minh; her daughter, Dang Minh Chau, 17; and her son, Dang Quoc Duy, 13, were among the 298 people on board flight when it was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17. Everyone on board the plane died in the tragedy, and as of September 30, 251 of them had been identified, Dutch authorities reported. Minh was taking her two children to Hanoi for a summer vacation and to visit her parents. Binh said Vietnamese diplomatic agencies are cooperating with Dutch agencies to find Duy’s body.  The three Vietnamese victims were born in Vietnam, but they later obtained Dutch citizenship. The Boeing 777 plane was shot down in Ukraine while flying from from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 298 fatalities include 192 Dutch nationals (one of whom also had U.S. citizenship), 44 citizens of Malaysia (including 15 crewmembers), 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians, 10 from the United Kingdom (one of whom also had South African citizenship), four from Germany, four from Belgium, three from the Philippines, one from Canada, and one from New Zealand, according to the Interfax-Ukraine. No one has claimed responsibility for the downing of the plane over war-torn Ukraine, but it is suspected that the airliner was hit by a missile fired by pro-Russian separatists, according to Independent.ie.
