The Tan Son Nhat International Airport had a four-legged intruder on Monday and security officers had no choice but to take its life.
A dog wandered into the Ho Chi Minh City terminal at around 8:00 am, airport director Dang Tuan Tu confirmed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper later the same day.
Security officers at first attempted to chase the animal away and keep it from reaching the runways, but eventually decided to shoot it dead after 15 minutes of struggling to capture it, Tu said.
The incident did not happen during peak hours at the airport, and caused no flight delays, the official added.
“All activities at the two runways remained normal [at that time],” he said.
The dog might have come from a residential area but it remains a mystery as to how the animal could have made it so far into the airport, according to security officers.
The intrusion has prompted Tan Son Nhat managers to request an immediate check of its fences and walls.
