Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Professor Thomas Vallely, advisor to the Harvard’s Vietnam Program, in Hanoi on Monday, asking him to help foster Vietnam-U.S. cooperation in education.
Deputy PM highly appreciated contributions by Prof. Vallely as well as the staff of the Vietnam Executive Leadership Program (VELP) to the promotion of cooperation in education between Vietnam and the U.S.
VELP, a collaborative initiative of the Vietnamese government, the United Nations Development Program, and the Vietnam Program at the Harvard Kennedy School, has created a forum for Vietnamese senior policymakers and business leaders to have dialogue on the basis of practical research into policy challenges that Vietnam and the world are facing, the Vietnamese official said.
Prof. Vallely spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts in boosting socio-economic development and preserving cultural and educational values over the past years.
The professor pledged to do his best to improve the quality of Vietnamese teaching at U.S. universities, contributing to promoting education partnerships between the two countries.
The Vietnam Program, which was launched in 1988, uses a multifaceted approach that combines teaching, research, and policy analysis in studying Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
