-- A 2m long tree branch, which has a diameter of 8cm, suddenly fell onto the head of a woman when she went across Dinh Tien Hoang street in Binh Thanh district, Ho Chi Minh City at about 6:00pm on Tuesday. She died on the way to hospital due to her head injury.

-- A big fire swept through 6 adjacent houses located in a small alley in Tan Quy ward in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 7 on Tuesday. There were no reports of human casualties.

Business:

-- The consumer price index (CPI) of Ho Chi Minh City in August increased by 0.68 per cent over last month after decreasing for two consecutive months, according to the municipal Statistics Office.

Lifestyle:

-- Vietnamese violinist Bui Cong Duy and singer Duc Tuan are set to perform at a diplomatic show in the Philippines on August 28 night, aimed at strengthening the two countries' relations. The show is organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines.

-- A number of songs in English have been used in some reality shows broadcast on Vietnam National Television Station VTV3 like The Voice, Vietnam Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Just the Two of Us, ect but VTV3 does not pay the songs’ copyright holders, says the Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright (VCPMC).

-- Thousands of books, journals, articles, magazines, newspapers, reference materials that Professor Tran Van Khue, one of the greatest masters of Vietnamese traditional music, collected during the time he lived and worked abroad from 1949 to 2005 are now available to local readers at a small library carrying his name located at 32 Huynh Dinh Hai, Binh Thanh District in Ho Chi Minh City.
