Free UK music fest to hit town next month

Free UK music fest to hit town next month

Wednesday, October 30, 2013, 15:00 GMT+7

British contemporary bands Anushka and Bwani Junction will perform at a free music festival to be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City next month.

Titled “UK NOW,” the event, held by the British Council and CAMA Vietnam, is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam – UK diplomatic relations and the 20th anniversary of the British Council in Vietnam.

Anushka is a Brighton-based duo made up of producer Max Wheeler and singer/songwriter Victoria Port. The band is touted as one of the most exciting dance acts of 2013.

Meanwhile, Bwani Junction is praised as one of the UK’s hottest young indie bands, made up of four young Scottish male artists. Their debut album “Fully Cocked” was nominated for the Scottish Album of the Year 2012. The band won Best New Comer at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards in 2012.

Local artists and bands including DJ Slim V, flutist Huyen Trang, LND Underground, WhiteNoiz, and Saigon Beats will share the stage.

“Enabled by the British Council Vietnam, two members from CAMA Vietnam had an opportunity to join the Great Escape 2013 in the UK. The Great Escape is the new music festival that showcases emerging artists from all over the world; notably, Adele played in The Great Escape 2007 before her debut album shot her to global fame. Anushka and Bwani Junction gave acclaimed acts at the Great Escape so I believe Vietnamese audiences will heartily welcome them, together with Vietnamese talents. Let’s come and enjoy!” Chris Brown, Director of the British Council Vietnam stated, regarding the event.

The festival will take place on November 9 at Van Hoa Nghe Thuat Exhibition Centre at 2 Hoa Lu Street in Hanoi and at District 4 Stage at 7 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in HCMC one day later.

Free tickets will be available from November 1. In Hanoi, tickets can be obtained at the British Council at 20 Thuy Khue Street in Hanoi’s Tay Ho District or at CAMA ATK at 73A Mai Hac De Street. In HCMC, music fans can get tickets at the British Council at 25 Le Duan Street in District 1 or ticketbox.vn.

One day before the festival, a musical workshop with Anushka and Bwani will be held at CAMA ATK.
