Vietnam have made it the quarterfinals of the 2016 AFC Futsal Championship in Uzbekistan after crushing Tajikistan in their second Group C game.

The 8-1 victory over the Tajik team on Saturday night helped the Vietnamese enter the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

Only 23 seconds into the game, Duong Anh Tung put Vietnam in the lead but Tajikistan evened out the score following striker Sardorov’s shot due to a Vietnamese mistake in the ninth minute.

However, the first half of the game ended in Vietnam’s favor as Tran Van Vu and Bao Quan netted two more goals in the 14th and 20th minute.

The Vietnamese went on to control the second half and concluded the match with an emphatic win, as Bruno Garcia’s men scored five more goals.

Thailand smashed Taiwan 7-2 in the other Group C game the same day. Thailand had defeated Tajikistan 5-4 in their opener on Thursday.

Vietnam now top the group with six points after beating Taiwan 5-4 on Thursday, thus booking a seat in the quarterfinals.

The match on Monday between Vietnam and Thailand will determine the final rankings of Group C as well as indentifying their competitors in the quarterfinal round, in which the two will face rivals from Group D that are expected to be Japan and Australia.

The 2016 AFC Futsal Championship is the 14th edition of the AFC Futsal Championship, biennially organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).

The tournament runs from February 10 to 21, with the participation of 16 teams in four groups.
