A Lamborghini car has been found not having been legitimately registered after fatally crashing into a man in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai on Saturday.
The Lamborghini Mucielago LP760 SV with license plate 51F-835.35 was traveling at high speed on National Highway 51 toward Ho Chi Minh City around noon when it hit a jaywalker in Dong Nai.
The victim, who had just climbed over the median strip to cross the road, was thrown over 10 meters away by the force of the collision and died instantly.
According to Dan Tri, an online newspaper, the victim was Ngo Van Trung, 53.
The driver has not been identified as he/she had left the scene after the accident, the online newspaper added.
According to the Vietnam Register, the automobile was not found in the list of registered vehicles.
The current traffic law requires that all vehicles, except motorbikes and similar vehicles, traveling on Vietnam’s streets be registered and have their safety standards inspected.
As the data about the Lamborghini could not be traced by the Vietnam Register, officials have noted down two possible scenarios.
In the first case, the vehicle had been registered and granted a license plate while its safety and environmental protection standards have yet to be evaluated, which thus renders it unqualified to travel the road.
In the second scenario, the car bears a fake license plate.
“Such abnormal signs can pose some difficulty for police officers to identify the driver of the car,” an official said.
