The government has removed a regulation requiring foreigners to have at least five years of experience in the field they teach before they can work as teachers at foreign-invested short-term training institutes, preschools, and high schools in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese government has just promulgated a decree which adjusts a regulation on foreign teachers in the country.

On September 26, 2012 the government issued Decree No. 73/2012/NĐ-CP, including Clause 6 of Article 31, stipulating that foreign teachers and instructors at foreign-invested short-term training institutes, preschools, high schools, vocational training facilities, and higher education institutions must have at least five years of experience in the fields they are teaching.

According to the adjustment, the regulation has been lifted for teachers and instructors at foreign-invested short-term training institutes, preschools, and high schools.

The adjusted Clause 6 of Article 31 in Decree No. 73/2012/NĐ-CP now requires only teachers and instructors at foreign-invested vocational training facilities and higher education institutions to have a minimum of five years of experience in the fields they are teaching.

Decree No. 73/2012/NĐ-CP took effect on November 15, 2012.
