It has been discovered that a large number of wild, endangered animals were viciously killed and slaughtered in a personal house in the central province of Quang Binh as supply for nearby eateries and restaurants. The house, owned by Cao Thi Tuyet, is located just 500m away from the park ranger stations of Thuong Hoa District. Inside this house a large amount of monkeys, weasels, chamois, and wild boars have been killed and cut into small parts, which Tuyet would then store in refrigerators. Besides selling the meat to nearby restaurants, Tuyet also runs an eatery in the house, illegally trading the wild animals. In related news, more than 120 park ranger officials of the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on August 21 conducted a sudden raid on 11 restaurants based in the locality and seized 133kg wild animal meat, and 123 live animals. The animals include pangolins, civets, snakes, and bamboo rats, which are all endangered and protected by law. The campaign was supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society. In mid-July a group of young men dressed in military uniform caused a public outcry when they posted photos showing them abusing and then boiling two endangered monkeys, one of whom was pregnant, on social network Facebook. Police in Quang Nam central province later announced an investigation into the case. Nguyen Van Quang, who was later determined to be the one who uploaded the photos of the brutal slaying, was sacked from the armed forces earlier this month. Below are some photos taken from Tuyet’s house:
