Vietnam Airlines launches new routes from Phu Quoc to Singapore, Siem Reap

Vietnam Airlines launches new routes from Phu Quoc to Singapore, Siem Reap

Thursday, September 25, 2014, 11:19 GMT+7

Vietnam Airlines on Wednesday announced two new international routes between southern Phu Quoc Island and two Southeast Asian countries, as part of a trade promotional campaign initiated by the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, which administers the island.

The new services will bring travelers from Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island, to Singapore and Siem Reap, the national flag carrier said.

Siem Reap, the capital city of Siem Reap Province in northwestern Cambodia, is a popular resort town known as the gateway to the Angkor region.

Phu Quoc Island is known for its white-sand beaches and high-quality seafood.

The Phu Quoc-Singapore air route will begin service on November 2, with two weekly flights using Airbus A321 aircraft. The Phu Quoc-Siem Reap service will operate thrice a week, using ATR-72 planes, starting on December 18, according to Vietnam Airlines.

The new air paths have been launched under a trade promotional program titled “Phu Quoc Destination,” collaboratively initiated by the Kien Giang People’s Committee, Vietnam Airlines, and Vinpearl JSC – a private Vietnamese company.

These are the first two international air routes operated by Vietnam Airlines from Phu Quoc, paving the way for other projects to follow and turn the island into a major exclusive economic zone in the future, according to airline deputy general director Trinh Ngoc Thanh.

The new services will create travel convenience between Phu Quoc and the world, Vietnam Airlines said, adding that it is continuing studies of new routes from the island to other parts of Southeast Asia.

The flag carrier is selling tickets for the Phu Quoc-Singapore route at only VND388,000 (US$18) per round-trip ticket for flights between November 2 and 30.

Return tickets for the Phu Quoc-Siem Reap route cost VND1.33 million ($63) each, with departures ranging from December 18, 2014 to January 31, 2015.

The airfares do not include taxes and fees.
