The decision of coach Tran Lap to send contestant Bao Anh to the next round of the ongoing singing contest ‘The Voice of Vietnam’ has met opposition from many viewers who argue that Anh didn’t deserve to be chosen due to her previous weak performance.
In the episode announcing the five finalists from team Tran Lap and Thu Minh, broadcast on September 30, Bao Anh received few votes from the audience. She was on the list of contestants facing an elimination risk since her previous performance of Britney Spears’s hit “Everytime” was decried by many viewers.
However, a large number of viewers have since expressed their surprise upon seeing coach Tran Lap choose her for the next round and eliminate two other contestants, Nguyen Thi Thao Nguyen and Huynh Anh Tuan, whom many netizens considered better than Bao Anh.
Immediately after the show was broadcast, musician Tran Lap and Bao Anh received a storm of criticism from netizens who said the coach chose Anh due to her beauty, not her voice.
Many others also expressed their opinion that the show’s results are arranged beforehand, so no matter how good the other contestants were, Anh would still be chosen.
For his part, Lap confirmed that he chose Anh without any bias.
“I don’t want to talk too much about my decision, since it may hurt people. As a coach, I have time with contestants and see how talented they are. Some contestants had to stop since they can’t improve their talent here anymore, they need other ways, other plans for their careers,” Lap told Dan Tri newswire.
“The next rounds will be harder. If Anh is not talented enough, she will be eliminated,” he added.
Anh also replied to the public by saying that she deserved to be chosen.
“There are audience members who have supported me as well as Lap for choosing me. I think I deserve the result,” she stated.
