Society:

-- Tuoi Tre undercover journalists spent many days penetrating deep inside some slaughters in the southern province of Dong Nai and have found a large number of dead or sick pigs being butchered for sale.

-- According to the National Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Center, on the evening of October 2, the tropical storm no. 7 was located 430 kilometers southeast of Hoang Sa archipelagos with winds of 62-74 kph. The storm is forecast to change its direction and will move west at 5-10 km and may strengthen further.

-- Twenty-eight defendants, have been convicted of trading drugs in prison, were sentenced to a combined total of 237 years in jail at a court in the central province of Nghe An on October 2. Le Xuan Minh, the ring’s leader, received a 20-year prison sentence.

Business:

-- Vietnam’s low-cost carrier Vietjet Air has announced a special promotion for domestic flights. Accordingly, 100,000 cheap flight tickets at price of VND10,000 each will be available for sale from 9:00pm to 11:59pm on October 10 - 12.

Politics:

-- The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship organization and the municipal Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association held a get-together on Tuesday to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Day of German Unity which falls on Oct. 3.

-- Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence, received Colonel Michellers Logronio, Military Attaché of the Philippines, in Hanoi on October 2.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Indian Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar in Hanoi on October 2 when Dung stated Vietnam always welcomes and creates favorable conditions for Indian businesses to invest in the country’s agricultural sector.
