At least two flights operated by national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) were unable to make landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday owing to bad weather, the airline’s spokesperson said the same day.
VNA flight VN 235 that departed from Hanoi to HCMC at 11:25 am on September 20 changed its direction to land at Can Tho airport in Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta due to heavy rain. The flight headed off to the southern hub at 3:50 pm the same day and landed at Tan Son Nhat at 4:20 pm.
Also on September 20, another VNA flight – VN 113 – carrying 183 passengers on board bound for HCMC from Da Nang City in the central region had to transit in Can Tho because of unfavorable weather conditions.
According to the airline’s spokesperson, a number of VNA flights bound for HCMC have changed course for the last few days to land at Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Can Tho airports, located in the central and southern parts, or even at Phnom Penh International Airport in Cambodia for safety reasons.
Some VNA pilots revealed to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that wind shear has obstructed safe landing at Tan Son Nhat over the past days.
