Filmmakers around the world, including from Vietnam, are invited to a filmmaking competition titled “View From Here” launched by the British Council.

According to the contest’s regulations, to make their films to compete, participants have to use the documentaries which tell stories about Britain from the British Council Film Collection made in the 1940’s.

They are allowed to remake the films in many ways, including adding a new soundtrack or voice-over to one of the existing flicks, inserting their own new pictures, choosing the subject of one of the films and refining it with updated images, finding a subject in the films and making a parallel version from a similar location in their own towns or countries, etc.

Each film must be no more than three minutes long and be submitted by July 18.

The jury includes Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin MacDonald, “Bend it like Beckham” director Gurinder Chadha, and television presenters Claudia Winkleman and Edith Bowman.

Winning entries will be displayed on the British Council’s website and be screened at offices in 110 countries.

Winners will receive a wide range of prizes, including an Apple iPad mini, a guided tour of Pinewood Studios, a visit to see the making of Harry Potter, tickets for the London Film Festival, having tea with one of the celebrity judges, and others.

The prizes will be for entry to the activities only and the winners will pay for their travel to their respective locations.
