A number of films by Vietnamese directors are being showcased at the Festival International de Films de Femmes (FIFF - International Women’s Film Festival) in Créteil in the southeastern suburbs of Paris from March 14 to 23.
The female directors are Viet Linh, Tran Phuong Thao, Xuan Lan Guyot, Truong Que Chi, Nguyen Hoang Diep, Nguyen Trinh Thi, Nghiem Quynh Trang, Nguyen Viet Anh Thu, and Duong Mong Thu.
The 77-minute film titled “Homostratus” (Mother’s Room) by Siu Pham has also been nominated for the fiction feature category.
Created in 1979, at a time when female filmmakers were just beginning to make their voices heard, the FIFF is an annual event that showcase directing talents of women filmmakers from all over the world.
Through the films, the festival aims to speak out against racism and gender and social class discrimination.
Each year, FIFF brings together more than 100 female filmmakers and around 20,000 spectators to celebrate women’s contributions to world cinematography.
The 2014 FIFF is broadcast on French channels like Arte, Ciné+, TV5Monde.
