PM Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the project Preparing the Ho Chi Minh City Outer Ring Road No. 3 Technical Assistance Loan, funded by the Asian Development Bank.

The 89.3 km road, with total investment of US13,720 million, will go through eight districts of four provinces and city, namely Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City.

It is anticipated that HCMC will become a mega-city with a population exceeding 10 million by 2020. Considering the ongoing modal shift from motorcycles to passenger cars, traffic congestion will continue to worsen.

To respond to traffic demands in the HCMC area, the road and highway network should be developed efficiently and strategic demand controls need to be introduced.

Construction of the Outer 3rd Ring Roads will help avoid concentration of economic and commercial activities to the city center, and represents a strategic effort to guide the future development of HCMC
