At a meeting with a World Bank senior official in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has proposed the WB increase assistance for Vietnam to help the country fulfill its economic reform programs. Deputy PM Nhan made the proposal during a meeting with Tunc Uyanik, Director of Global Financial Systems Practice and Manager of Financial and Private Sector Development Unit for East Asia and the Pacific at the WB in Hanoi on Thursday. Nhan said Vietnam highly values the financial and technical assistance and policy consultations the bank has given to Vietnam over the past time. He also informed the WB senior official that the Vietnamese Government has approved a project on innovations targeting people on low income financed by the WB. This project is aimed at calling on organizations and businesses to apply new technology solutions to create low-cost products and services for low-income earners, Nhan said.

The deputy PM also asked the WB to pay more attention to the Nghi Son Economic Zone in the central province of Thanh Hoa and a poverty reduction project in six districts in northern Ha Giang province. In reply, Tunc Uyanik said the WB will continue giving support to Vietnam to help the country complete its economic reform programs.
