U.S. Pacific Fleet leader visits Vietnam to boost ties

Visiting Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Admiral Harry Harris, suggested that Vietnam create conditions for the U.S. to increase its naval ships visiting the country in 2015 to boost their defense ties.

The U.S. Admiral made the suggestion at his talks with Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) in Hanoi on Tuesday, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

He also congratulated the VPA on its 70th founding anniversary (December 22, 1944). In reply, the host affirmed that Vietnam highly values its comprehensive cooperation with the U.S. in various fields. The Vietnamese official also emphasized naval coordination as one of the highlights of the defense ties between the two countries.

He said he wished the cooperation activities between Vietnamese and US naval forces will continue to develop effectively and practically, contributing to strengthening the two countries’ defense ties.
