A man in Ho Chi Minh City hacked his daughter’s husband to death and drove the victim’s body to a police station for confession, officers announced on Monday.

The investigative agency of Go Vap District police said on Monday that they were finalizing case files to transfer suspect Nguyen Van Nam, 58, to the Criminal Division of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Police for further investigation.

According to police reports, 34-year-old Ton Thanh Viet, the victim and son-in-law of Nam, came to his house in Go Vap at around 4:45 pm on Saturday after downing alcohol.

Viet reportedly hurled insults at his wife’s family in a drunken manner in front of the house.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc D., 28, Viet’s sister-in-law and Nam’s daughter, came home just then and was pushed to the ground by the shouting man.

Witnessing the incident, Nam lost his temper, fetched a cleaver from the house and started hacking Viet continuously in the head and shoulders, killing the victim on the spot.

After cooling down, Nam drove a motorbike carrying Viet’s body to a local police station to report the incident and confess his crime.
