A temporary flight prohibition has been imposed on a Vietnamese teacher who claimed to be drunk after making a false bomb threat while preparing to depart on a domestic flight in late November, officials said.
While having his luggage scanned by a security system at an airport in north-central Vietnam, the teacher stated in the presence of security guards that there was a bomb in his bag, according to the Northern Airports Authority (NAA), a division of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.
“There is a bomb in my bag,” Tran. T. D. proclaimed while his luggage was being scanned through the system at the Vinh airport in Nghe An Province.
The passenger was immediately arrested by airport security guards for investigation.
However, as authorities found no bomb, D. was prohibited from traveling by plane for one year - from January 15, 2016 to January 15, 2017 - as stipulated by the airport management and VietJet Air, a low-cost airline.
D., 42, who is currently teaching at a primary school in Thu Duc District, Ho Chi Minh City, intended to travel from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City with VietJet Air.
During the investigation, D. admitted that he had been drunk when making the false claim, implying that it was just a joke.
The NAA thus made the decision to ban D. from all flights for 12 months.
All airlines and units involved are required to abide by the ruling.
If anyone detects D. traveling by plane during the restricted period, prevention attempts must be made, the NAA insisted.
