A flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, slated for delivery to the Vietnam's national flag carrier in mid-2015, has wowed the world with a jaw-dropping flying display in preparation for an airshow in France next week.
Vietnam Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, one of the newest flagship jetliners of the U.S. planemaker, is scheduled to attend the 51st Paris Air Show, one of the world’s largest airshows, at Le Bourget from June 15 to 21.
The U.S. planemaker apparently could not wait until the airshow kicks off to show off its flagship jetliner, as it decided to show the world how the 787-9 Dreamliner prepares for the event as early as Thursday.
In a video posted on the verified account of Boeing on YouTube, the 787-9, bearing the distinctive blue and gold lotus livery of Vietnam Airlines, performs a mind-blowing takeoff that is almost vertical.
“Watch as Boeing’s expert crew rehearses the flying display that will be performed at the 2015 Paris Air Show,” the planemaker said in the video description.
The Boeing expert crew also makes many other impressive flying displays during the practice, as shown in the three-minute footage.
The video quickly garnered more than 3 million views only two days after the upload.
Many impressed viewers left comments under the video to exclaim their surprise seeing the jetliner take off almost vertically.
The amazing rehearsal has also grabbed international headlines. Famous news outlets such as the CNN, USA Today and the Huffington Post reposted the video, calling the near vertical takeoff “eyedropping”, “extraordinary”, and an “aerial acrobatic display.”
The video was filmed above Moses Lake in Washington to offer the public “a first look at the demonstration Boeing is scheduled to fly” at the 2015 Paris Air Show, Boeing said in a press release on Thursday.
“The video spotlights technical maneuvers that showcase some of the airplane's many capabilities,” Boeing said, adding the footage also builds the excitement of Boeing's 2014 Farnborough Airshow with “new angles and the stunning livery of 787-9 customer Vietnam Airlines.”
Vietnam Airlines’ 787-9 Dreamliner is scheduled to return to the U.S. from the France airshow on June 19 for a passenger flight before being officially delivered to the carrier by the end of this month.
The Vietnamese airline will first use the new jetliner for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City service, so that its domestic customers can experience flying with the Boeing flagship Dreamliner.
The first international service to use the new aircraft will be the Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City)-London Heathrow route, according to Vietnam Airlines.
“I am so booking my next trip on Vietnam Airlines,” a user named DeWitt Clinton said as he shared the video on his Google+.
The Boeing 787-9 is the second and newest member of the 787 family, super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features.
With the fuselage stretched 20 feet (6 meters) over the 787-8, the 787-9 can fly more passengers and more cargo farther yet with the same exceptional environmental efficiency – 20 percent less fuel use and emissions than the airplanes they replace, according to Boeing.
Through May 2015, 30 customers from around the world have ordered 509 787-9s, 46 percent of all 787 orders.
