-- Vietnamese and Lao border officials agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in border management during their 26th annual meeting in Vientiane on Thursday.

-- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong will visit China within January, the foreign ministry confirmed on Thursday.

-- Despite a scandal of unprecedented magnitude, the April-May mass fish deaths in central Vietnam has not been included in the list of 10 outstanding events relating to natural resources and environment in 2016, issued Thursday by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

-- A 39-year-old woman who sold fried banana was sentenced to 26 years behind bars by a court in the southern province of Vinh Long on Thursday for killing a small vendor selling vegetables at the same market with her to steal her money in August 2016.

-- The Ho Chi Minh City administration has announced a plan to relocate 10,000 production and manufacturing facilities out of the residential areas by 2020.

-- Ho Chi Minh City will need as many as 7,000 street sweepers and 2,000 vehicles to be able to keep citywide streets clean 24/7 during the Lunar New Year holidays, which start later this month.

-- A tour called “Two countries - Four destinations," connecting Ha Long and Mong Cai of Vietnam and Dongxing and Guilin of China, was launched in the northern Vietnamese province of Quang Ninh on Thursday.

-- Vietnamese airlines have obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to add a total of 1,270 domestic flights during Tet, or the Lunar New Year, to meet rising demand for the busiest travel time of Vietnamese flyers.

-- Ho Chi Minh City has been listed among the Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities in Asia by animal rights group PETA, as the Vietnamese metropolis’ “bustling vegan scene supplies hungry diners with everything from meat-free bánh mì to vegan egg braised in soya gravy.”
