A UK student of Vietnamese origin who was recently the recipient of six different recruitment offers from some of the world’s largest and most reputable tech and finance giants, including Google and Apple.

Chris Khoa Nguyen, a student at the University of Exeter, has become the pride of the overseas Vietnamese student community after announcing employment offers from Google, Apple, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, and Bank of England.

The 22-year-old student humbly called himself lucky after receiving the offers and attributed his success to the professional, educational, and extracurricular experiences he has collected over the years.

“What employers want is to recruit people they want to work with and fit well with their company’s culture,” Nguyen said. “Be confident, nice and yourself.”

After evaluating each offer, Nguyen accepted a position on the financial crime corruption and prevention team with American global investment management corporation BlackRock.

“This is a place that I believe can give me the most potential of improvement and I will have chances to work with government and global financial organizations,” the BlackRock employee explained.

Besides excellent school scores, Nguyen also does modeling for fashion brands and magazines.

The Praha-born student was employed by Abercrombie after posting photos on Instagram. He has also worked with Banana Republic, Lenovo and a Swiss watch brand.

Though his modeling has appeared in magazine like Elle, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, and others, Nguyen said he considered modeling a part-time job and motivation for him to take care of his health and body.

“Of course, modeling, like any other job, brings me new and interesting experiences and lessons,” he admitted.

Regarding young people who seem to care much more about their looks than improving their knowledge, Nguyen said there is a silver lining.

“From a positive perspective, paying attention to looks will motivate people to live healthily and care more about their fitness as well as what they are eating and drinking,” Nguyen said.

“However, looks are not the most important factor in evaluating people,” he added. “I hope society and youths in general appreciate personality, talent, passion and diversity in appearance.”

Reading is one of Nguyen’s hobbies, and his favorite book is 'The Audacity of Hope' by U.S. President Barack Obama. 

He was drawn to the book by its focus on the audacious dreams and the bravery of a young person.

“I have lots of interesting memories at the old books stores,” Nguyen said. “I have a ‘collection’ of books collected over many years.”

The young man said he does not have long-term plans for the next five to ten years, as he thinks it limits new opportunities.

“The most important thing is to be yourself, persistently follow what you love, and appreciate the value in your desire,” Nguyen said.
