These plans have been put together on the basis of surveys by local police officers on all locations that will be related to the IPU-132’s agenda, according to another official from the city police who provided details of the 11 plans for conference attendees. The Hanoi Fire Prevention and Control Police Department also presented to the conference their ways to prevent fire at all venues specified in the 11 plans. Colonel Dao Vinh Thang, head of the Hanoi Road and Railway Traffic Police Department, also publicized the agency’s traffic arrangement plans that will be applied during the 8-day IPU-132 to ensure the safe and convenient travel of both the delegations and local residents. Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Lam, who is head of the IPU’s Sub-Committee for Security and Order, stressed that ensuring absolute political security and social order is crucial to the success of the IPU-132. Lam also said the capital’s police will be the key force providing effective protection for the upcoming international event, which is slated to include 67 sessions and 66 bilateral meetings focusing on promoting messages of peace, democracy, and social progress and equality. Established in 1889, the IPU now has 163 members and 10 associate members. Vietnam joined the IPU in 1979.
