Hanoi electronic store stirs debate over bikini-clad promotion girls

Hanoi electronic store stirs debate over bikini-clad promotion girls

Thursday, May 05, 2016, 11:13 GMT+7

An electronics store based in Hanoi sparked criticism after five promotion girls were spotted wearing itty-bitty bikinis at work.

The Tran Anh electronics store caused the social media storm on April 28 after its customers shared a number of photos showing the girls in 2-piece swimwear.

The girls were responsible for greeting visitors and introducing air conditioning products, as shown in the photos.

According to local newswire VnExpress, the marketing ploy was the cause of serious criticism from customers.

“This type of advertisement is disturbing. The store’s customer-base includes not only men but also women, elders, and children. Their strategy showed a total lack of professionalism,” the site quoted Linh Anh, an office worker, as saying.

Ngo Thanh Dat, marketing director of Tran Anh, told VnExpress that the photos were part of a video clip produced by the store to educate youngsters about sex.

“We hired an agency to produce a sex education clip, during which somebody took the photos and published them online,” the newswire quoted Dat as saying.

The director added that the clip was not for marketing purposes, and the info-leak was unexpected.
