-- The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has proposed that an expansion plan on Tan Son Nhat International Airport enhance the aerodome’s passenger capacity to 43 million or 45 million passengers a year, compared to the current 25 million, in a bid to combat overcrowding by the end of this year.

-- Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has directed drastic measures to be adopted to step up the fight against physical and sexual abuse targeted at children.

-- On Tuesday, more than a hundred fishermen and residents in Binh Son District in the central province of Quang Ngai held a funeral in observance of a long-standing tradition for a 700-kg whale which had been washed ashore and died from multiple wounds the previous day.

-- Doctors at a hospital in the northern province of Quang Ninh on Tuesday operated on a 52-year-old female patient to remove a nearly-2-kg tumor from her uterus.

-- Vietnamese cyber security firms have reported multiple attacks, including serious ones, at local businesses by the WannaCry ransomware program, which had paralyzed Britain’s hospitals and struck 99 countries last week.

-- Doctors at Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City revealed on Tuesday they had saved a six-year-old Cambodian boy who had been hospitalized in a critical condition following a tree fall in late April.

-- Kwong Lung Meko Co., a Taiwanese garment exporter, at the Tra Noc Industrial Park in Binh Thuy District, located in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, will receive US$18 million in insurance compensation for the intensive damage the company had incurred from a blaze in late March.

-- Businesses have voiced numerous complaints to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc including relentless inspection and exorbitant export-import duty rates.

-- The People’s Committee in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa has approved a proposal to build a  solar power plant, at an estimated cost of VND1.9 trillion ($83.2 million), in Cam Lam District.

-- The Vietnam Petroleum Association at a seminar held on Tuesday called for trade barriers to protect local enterprises as petrol import duties will be reduced to zero.
