Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign affairs on Thursday issued a statement condemning Taiwanese military drills on an island belonging to the Southeast Asian nation’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago.
The live-fire exercise took place on Ba Binh (Itu Aba) Island on Wednesday.
Taiwan conducting the drill is a serious violation to Vietnam’s territorial sovereignty over the set of islands, threatening peace, stability, safety, and security of navigation, and causing tension in the maritime area, foreign ministry spokesperson Nguyen Thi Thu Hang stated.
“Once again, Vietnam resolutely objects and requests that Taiwan refrain from conducting similar actions,” Hang reiterated.
Hang ended the statement by reiterating Vietnam’s legal foundation and historical evidence proving its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa archipelagos.
